Committee Volunteers

This is your chance to work behind the scenes in the office or on one of our committees. Please call us, and we will tell you about committee opportunities. A commitment of any time is welcome.

Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity has many active committees, each dedicated to an important portion of our mission. We offer volunteer opportunities in the following committees:

Administration/Office
Office volunteering requires an eight hour per week commitment due to training.

  • Assist with correspondence and mailings
  • Handle information requests
  • Respond to telephone inquires

Building Committee

  • Provide skilled leadership to inexperienced volunteers
  • Develop and implement safety policies at the work sites
  • Nurture relationships with vendors of building supplies and construction materials
  • Control and maintain building materials inventory
  • Manage the construction budget and implement cost controls
  • Be a site greeter/organizer

Development and Special Events Committee

  • Develop a variety of fundraising projects to support all building expenses
  • Coordinate fundraising programs
  • Help to nurture long term relationships with contributors by phone
  • Assist in preparation of fundraising mailings
  • Coordinate special events
  • Take pictures of work site projects, dedication ceremonies, ground breaking, etc.
  • Help write or produce newsletter
  • Make presentation/lectures to area churches and organizations


Finance Committee

  • Prepare monthly financial statements
  • Present and review statements to the Board of Directors
  • Assist chairperson in developing and forecasting budgets
  • Advise Board of Directors of various financial aspects that arise
  • Deal with insurance and legal issues

Volunteer Committee

  • Volunteer to bring a work crew
  • Recruit and schedule volunteers at work site
  • Work closely with the construction committee to coordinate efforts
  • Help identify volunteers with key skills to refer to appropriate chairperson
  • Assist in recognition of volunteer efforts, including writing thank you notes
  • Seek out new programs to secure volunteer longevity

The following committees meet on a regular as needed basis:

Site Selection Committee

  • Work with town offices to research and secure property
  • Provide technical council for determining site building feasibility
  • Provide legal council for acquiring properties
  • Monitor local papers for announcements of public real estate auctions
  • Talk to local realtors, banks, and developers about possible properties


Family Partnership Committee

  • Be a family Partner Serve as a liaison/advocate/friend to a Habitat family
  • Family Partners Support a family through the process of building and owning their home
  • Two year commitment encouraged
  • Consult with or refer families to needed resources such as financial, legal, health or educational, and home maintenance
  • Help families with their sweat equity hours
  • Participate in organizing family partners events
  • Participate in homeownership education classes such as budgeting, condominium
    association training and home maintenance
  • Track and monitor family's "sweat equity" hours
  • Organize the Home dedications

Family Selection committee

  • When homes become available publicize and outreach application process in community
  • Organize and attend the family informational meeting for interested families
  • Review and process all applications
  • Conduct applicant home visits
  • Prepare homeowner recommendations for Board of Directors
  • Attend special meeting to select family

Church Relations Committee

  • Take church leaders on tours of the current and finished building projects
  • Coordinate Building on Faith Week in September
  • Help to identify church leaders and build relationships
  • Make presentations to churches
  • Increase church sponsorship
  • Recruit groups to volunteer
